From Chicago Tribune: The first time they met, neither of the Far South Side school principals was sure what to expect. Taquia Hylton’s school, West Pullman Elementary, is slated to be shut as part of the district’s plan to close 54 schools in June. Its approximately 300 students would be sent to Alex Haley Elementary, where Rhonda Larkin has been principal since last summer. The two women hugged, then sat down to talk over lunch. “I’m sorry this is happening to you,” Larkin said. “I went through the very same thing last year at my school so I know what you’re going through.” Then Larkin, whose previous school closed just a year earlier, said something that Hylton needed to hear: “This is because of no fault of your own, and I know it’s not my fault either.”
