From ABC Go Local:

As part of efforts to reach out to students with limited English skills and educate them about science, the Exploratorium is working with the Sonoma Valley School District in California to use science as a tool for improving English. Students are put into groups to work on experiments such as if snails can escape from mazes. In detailing their results, students are encouraged to use new words and learn the official terms for different parts of the animals’ bodies. The Exploratorium has been working with the Sonoma district for six years fine tuning teacher training and materials so the program can be replicated across the country.
